Although I don’t remember the first time I had actually seen Heatbox, I do remember being completely in awe at his set.
This Minneapolis native is pure talent. He beatboxes different instruments (or ‘tracks) live, recording them and looping them together. It’s always a different beat to make a different song. After completing the music section, he’ll then sing/rap over it. The last time I saw him at Club David, he invited members of the audience to join him on stage and rap to his beats.
The music portion is insane and it’s amazing to see his process of putting it all together. And even though a lot of his lyrics base around weed and booze, I can look past that to how good he sounds.
Check him out at Wiley’s Pub on May 12. 21+ show – $7. More info here.
