It’s no secret that I adore Dessa. Not in a creepy way, but a high school “YOU GET ME!” kind of way. I’ve been drawn to her music since I first heard of Doomtree years ago, and that connection was only solidified with her newest album, Parts of Speech.
A lot of her songs come off as a sort of spoken word piece, which is understandable since she’s such an incredible writer and poet. Her words flow so easily and with meaning – you can hear the happiness, the strength, and the sadness in her voice. Every live performance is like telling her story for the very first time – the good, the bad, and the love lost.
Minneapolis’ finest Sims released a new single yesterday, featuring Astronautalis and produced by Cecil Otter. What that basically means is a trio of incredibly talented people have just made my day. You can see Sims and Astro together in Minneapolis next month if you don’t come to Sioux Falls for the Later Babes show. Gotta love your life when some of the hardest choices you have to make are which great show to attend!
Check it out.
The always-impressive Doomtree camp just released a new video for Sims‘ “LMG”, a personal favorite off his latest full-length, Bad Time Zoo.
Matt Scharenbroich is the mastermind behind the beautiful video, compiled of “tripped out vizualz and 1,600 hand drawn pieces of paper” (according to the Doomtree website). It’s a great representation of Sims and allows an extra visual-emphasis on his descriptive lyrics. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the talented group.
You can pick up a FREE copy of the Wildlife EP, a promotional release from Sims, by clicking here. Be sure to catch Sims on tour with Lazerbeak and Cecil Otter at these dates.
In the meantime, check out the video below.

Tomorrow night will be quite the fucking rap party.
Why? Cause the Stophouse gampos will be in town.
The Minneapolis natives are some of my favorite people to hang with. Prof puts on an amazing show for the crowd and is definitely worth checking out. I was able to score a phone interview with the ever amazing rapper last week – thankfully I had some time to edit his language before airing it today.
Check out this crazy motherfucker tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 28) at Nutty’s North with Sims from Doomtree. Openers include Midwest Blessed and V the Noble One.
If you don’t go, you hate fun.
As always, you can download the interview via MediaFire here. Episode 16 originally aired August 27, 2010 at 94.5 KCFS (Sioux Falls).
Check out Prof on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.
Go to Stophouse’s website to check out some free music and hilarious videos.
